This falls outside my blogging mandate here at DFW/AUG, but i got started in this business 15 years ago with Authorware, so seeing an eSeminar called "Adobe Panel Webinar on Solutions for Authorware Users" stings a little:
On August 3, 2007 Adobe Systems announced a decision that we would no
longer continue the ongoing development of Authorware. During the two
months since that announcements we have heard from many customers
regarding the impact that this decision represents to their learning,
elearning and training businesses.
i don't use Authorware any more, but i'm still heavily involved in eLearning and instructional design, and i think i may attend this just to get my bearings and take the temperature of the industry. My perception is that the eLearning community is really fragmented--everyone finds their own technology space and digs into it, so you can find plenty of folks who can tell you why their solution is best, but there's not a lot of consensus on which space is best.
i don't think that's bad, but you don't find an opportunity like this very often, hearing an industry leader talking about migration strategies.
On the other hand, i suppose it could be another "Use Flex" seminar. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the seminar description (and the presence of both Ellen Wagner AND Tom King--if you know either of them, you'll understand) promises a broader scope. i'm very curious.
The seminar is this Wednesday. Register here.
